The much-anticipated culinary venture from Chris Lucas, Martin Benn and Vicki Wild has been announced! Society is set to open its doors in late March at 80 Collins Street in the Melbourne CBD.
It’s been three years since restauranteur, Chris Lucas of Chin Chin, Hawker Hall and Kisume fame poached Sepia’s Vicki Wild and Martin Benn from Sydney and brought them across the border for a top-secret project. Together, the trio have dreamt up a venue unprecedented in Melbourne.
A choose your own adventure experience, Society promises a 180-degree outlook over Collins and Exhibition Streets and is complete with a dining room for 100, a terrace that seats just as many, a lounge bar and clutch of private rooms. It offers the freewheeling format that’s growing popularity across the dining scene in Sydney and Melbourne. Whether you’re after a cocktail, a quick snack, a business lunch or an occasion meal, Society will have it all.
Designed by Melbourne based firm, Russell & George, the fit-out will be “a contemporary reimagining of mid-century”. Grand yet intimate, Lucas’ love for mid-century architecture has seen him drawing inspiration from New York institution, The Grill. Think soaring ceilings, banquette seating and big-city views. The sum of its parts will conjure a sense of old-world sophistication with a modern, casual luxury.
From concept to construction, Society has been a long time coming. And, we can wait to see what Lucas, Benn and Wild have in store.
